Both are good. Here is when each one wins.
Stepshots Pro is €19 a month and Peutly Starter is $175, and the first thing to say is that they do not record the same thing. Stepshots turns each click into a screenshot you annotate. Peutly captures the real DOM, so the viewer moves through your actual interface and you edit the copy inside it afterwards. Both are legitimate products. The question is which one your demo needs to be, and this page is about where that extra money earns its place and where it plainly does not.
Stepshots pricing, as Stepshots publishes it
Every figure below is copied from their own pricing page, last read on 22 September 2026. Where they publish no number, we say so instead of estimating one.
| Plan | Monthly | Seats and what is included |
|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | No per-seat billing 1 hosted demo. Guided tours carry a Stepshots badge. Stepshots publishes monthly pricing only. |
| Pro | €19 | No per-seat billing 30 hosted demos, analytics, custom branding, embed anywhere, AI sandbox hosting, priority support. |
| One Pro Demo | €29 one-time | No per-seat billing A single unbranded demo with per-step funnel analytics, without a subscription. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom Everything in Pro plus invoicing, purchase orders and dedicated support. |
The seat maths. Neither tool charges per seat, so team size does not change either bill. Stepshots caps what you publish instead: 30 hosted demos on Pro. Peutly caps nothing on any plan. If you will never publish more than a handful of demos, that cap costs you nothing and the price difference is real money.
What each price buys. Peutly captures the real DOM on every plan, from $175 a month, so the demo is your actual interface and stays editable afterwards. Stepshots does not offer DOM capture on any plan, "Each step becomes a screenshot you can edit." No DOM capture on any plan.. The two prices buy different kinds of product.
The matrix
Stepshots is a interactive demo platform. Rows marked missing for Peutly are things we genuinely do not do, not things we are about to ship.
| Feature | Peutly | Stepshots |
|---|---|---|
| What each step actually is Stepshots: "Each step becomes a screenshot you can edit." Peutly replays the HTML your app rendered, so the viewer clicks the real interface and a renamed button is a text edit rather than a re-record. | The real DOM | A screenshot |
| Entry price for a paid plan Stepshots publishes prices in euros and Peutly in dollars, so the gap moves slightly with the exchange rate. It stays roughly ninefold either way. | $175 / month | €19 / month |

| Hosted demos | Unlimited | 30 on Pro |
| One-off purchase without a subscription Peutly has no one-off option. If you need exactly one demo and nothing after it, theirs is the cheaper shape. | €29 per demo | |

Where Peutly wins
Everything that turns a demo into pipeline
Lead capture forms at any step, a per-session event timeline, identifying which viewer submitted which form, forwarding events into your own GA4, Segment or Heap, and webhooks into your systems. Stepshots reports a per-step funnel. If the demo is a marketing asset that has to produce leads and prove it did, that gap is what the price difference buys.
Narration in 20 languages
Write a script, pick one of thirteen voices, and Peutly synthesises the audio, with 300,000 characters a month on Starter. Stepshots has no narration layer. For a demo that has to work in a market where your buyer does not read English comfortably, this is not a nice-to-have.
No cap on what you publish
Stepshots Pro hosts 30 demos. Peutly hosts as many as you make, on every plan. Thirty is plenty until you start making one per feature launch, one per persona and one per campaign, and then it is not.
Your own domain, and a password when you need one
Custom share domain and password-protected demos are on Peutly Pro. Stepshots lists neither. If a demo goes to a named account under an NDA, you need the second one.
Where Stepshots wins
It costs about a ninth of what we do
€19 a month against $175. If your budget for demo software is a hundred euros a year, this comparison is already over and you should use Stepshots. We would rather say that than pretend a feature list changes the arithmetic.
The CI check is a genuinely good idea
Stepshots verifies demos against your UI and tells you when one has gone stale. Peutly makes stale demos easy to fix, because the capture stays editable, but it does not tell you that one broke. Theirs is the better answer to the same problem and we do not have it.
You can buy exactly one demo
€29 for a single unbranded demo with funnel analytics and no subscription. If you need one demo for one launch, that shape is simply better than any monthly plan, ours included.
A free tier that publishes something real
Stepshots Free hosts one demo with a badge on it, permanently. Peutly gives you 7 days, plus 7 more when you publish, and then asks for a card.
Choose Stepshots if an annotated screenshot walkthrough is the artefact you need and the budget is small. Choose Peutly if the demo has to be your real product, generate and attribute pipeline, run in more than one language, and live on your own domain.
Peutly and Stepshots, the short answers
If we got a fact about their product wrong, email founders@peutly.com and we will correct it.
Mostly because they are different products. Stepshots records a screenshot per step; Peutly records the real DOM, so the viewer clicks through your actual interface. On top of that Peutly adds lead capture inside the demo, per-session analytics, event forwarding into GA4, Segment or Heap, webhooks, voice-over in 20 languages, a custom share domain and unlimited hosted demos. Whether that is worth roughly $150 a month depends on whether demos are a marketing channel for you or a nice extra on a docs page.
No. Stepshots runs a CI check against your UI and flags demos that no longer match. We do not have that. What Peutly gives you instead is a captured DOM you can edit, so fixing a stale demo means changing the text rather than re-recording it. Knowing it broke is still on you.
No. Starter is $175 a month, or $140 on annual billing. There is no free tier and no one-off purchase. If that does not fit the budget, Stepshots Pro at €19 is the honest recommendation.
No. Peutly is a subscription, monthly or annual. Stepshots sells a single unbranded demo for €29 one-time, which is a better fit if you genuinely need one and only one.
Build the same demo in both. See for yourself.
You get 7 days free, and another 7 once you publish your first demo. Build the demo you would actually ship in both tools and let your own funnel data settle it.
